2019 Hyperion Award

Throughout our State of Michigan there are a few individuals who are the leaders in our industry. The Hyperion Award was created as part of The Eclipse Awards to honor those individuals who have not created just one work, but over the course of a career have, through leadership, created many works; mentored many individuals and acted in leadership roles to build our industry.

For this reason, the Board of Governors of The Eclipse Awards is pleased and honored to award Juanita Anderson The Hyperion Award for 2019. Nominees for The Hyperion came in from across the state and after deliberation, the Board chose Juanita as the recipient.

Juanita Anderson is a filmmaker who spent her early years developing skills in documentary work at PBS stations which informs her current work in academia at Wayne State University.

She helped to launch a multi University alliance with the goal of training students in real world projects...which has become at least at Wayne State a year round program.

She is currently developing a Masters level program there in documentary story telling.

A large part of her career in education and as an active content creator has been devoted to the Michigan film and television production industry.

I have known Juanita for 10 years, as we worked in our ways to make the film community stronger.

And each year as the Board of Governors deliberates the recipient of The Hyperion Award, it becomes an honor to recognize such inspiring talent in our state. Congratulations to Juanita Anderson on being the recipient of The Hyperion Award for 2019.

Healthy and robust production communities aren't born, they're built.
